Welcome to Hayley A Young: The Polymath Problem

Apparently, you’re supposed to pick a niche.
I have tried.
It didn’t take.
Like at all.
I’ve spent more than fifteen years creating things online, and somewhere along the way I’ve been a blogger, marketer, stylist, coach, content creator and serial starter of projects. I’ve built audiences, worked with brands, watched platforms rise and fall, changed direction, started again and learned an enormous amount by actually doing the work.
And yet conventional internet wisdom would still like me to choose one neat little box.
No.
Welcome to Hayley A Young.
What Exactly Is a Polymath Creator?
For me, being a polymath isn’t about claiming to be brilliant at everything.
It’s about being relentlessly interested in more than one thing — and recognising that those interests don’t exist independently of each other.
My understanding of style affects how I create visual content.
Marketing changes how I think about blogging.
Blogging made me a better writer.
Writing makes me better at communicating strategy.
Understanding social media changes the way I approach brands.
Creativity feeds all of it.
The interesting bit isn’t any individual skill.
It’s what happens when you connect them.
And that’s what this website is about.
Polymath Profits Through Content Creation
That’s the premise behind Hayley A Young.
Instead of asking, “Which one of my skills am I allowed to monetise?”, I’m interested in a much better question:
How can all these skills work together to create something valuable?
You’ll find me talking about blogging and content creation here, naturally.
But we’ll also venture into social media, branding, UGC, creative business, personal style, beauty, storytelling and the realities of building an income around creative skills.
Sometimes those subjects will collide.
Good.
That’s rather the point.
I’m Not Starting From Scratch
This may be a new website, but I’m not a new creator.
I’ve been blogging for over fifteen years.
That means I’ve lived through enough eras of the internet to know that today’s absolute rule is quite likely to become tomorrow’s outdated advice.
I’ve seen blogging change.
I’ve seen social media transform how creators build audiences.
I’ve seen algorithms become miniature dictators.
I’ve seen perfectly sensible people become emotionally invested in analytics dashboards.
And now we’re watching AI change creative work all over again.
I’m interested in what comes next — without pretending everything that came before it suddenly stopped mattering.
Experience matters.
So does adaptability.
Yes, There Will Be AI Here
I’ve already written an entire Word on AI because I’d rather be transparent about this from day one.
I use AI.
I also use my brain.
These are not mutually exclusive activities.
I’ll use technology where it makes my work faster, more organised or more creatively interesting. But ideas still need judgement. Articles still need a point of view. Recommendations still need integrity.
I’m interested in being an AI-assisted human creator, not manufacturing endless mountains of generic content.
The internet has quite enough beige already.
This Isn’t a “How I Made £47 Million Before Breakfast” Blog
There will be conversations about money.
After all, Polymath Profits is right there in the premise.
But I’m much more interested in building sustainable income from a collection of creative skills than selling fantasies about instant success.
I’ll talk about experiments that work.
I’ll talk about things that don’t.
I’ll explore different income streams, content models and opportunities.
And when I’m figuring something out, I’ll say so.
You don’t have to arrive on the internet as the finished product before you’re allowed to document the journey.
Expect Experiments
This website will probably contain a few.
I like trying ideas.
Some will become businesses.
Some will become brilliant pieces of content.
Some will become lessons.
And occasionally something will deserve to be quietly escorted behind the digital shed and never discussed again.
That’s creation.
I’d rather build, test and learn than spend six months making a colour-coded strategy document about something I never actually launch.
So, What Happens Now?
We create.
I’ll be sharing the thinking behind content, brands, blogs and creative projects while exploring how a multi-skilled creator can turn those abilities into a coherent business.
There will be strategy.
There will be style.
There will be stories.
There will almost certainly be an unnecessarily strong opinion about branding at some point.
But most importantly, this is somewhere I don’t have to cut pieces off my creative identity just to fit into a niche.
I’m Hayley A Young.
I’m a creator with too many interests to fit neatly into one box.
Turns out, the box was the problem.
Welcome to the polymath era.
